Makaua Tortillero Basket with Lid
This handwoven palm tortillero basket keeps tortillas (plus naan, pita and other flatbreads) warm, thanks to its double-walled construction and matching lid. Makaua is a Náhuatl word that translates to “from hand to hand”—a fitting name for the brand’s painstakingly handcrafted baskets. Every step of the production process is hands-on: Artisans source their own materials by hiking into the mountains of southern Mexico and harvesting mature palm leaves by hand; they then boil and sun-dry the leaves to prepare them for the weaving process. Next, they braid the palm leaves into long strips and sew them together using techniques passed down through generations. The final results blend traditional technique with a modern look, creating tablewares that stand out. You can also use it to serve pastries and rolls or store fresh fruit. Available in three naturally-dyed colors: Light Blue, Brown and Carbon.
Net Weight: 6.2 ounces
Materials: Sustainably Harvested Dried Palm Fibers
Dimensions: 8 inches x 3 inches
Place of Origin: Mexico
Care: Keep away from liquids, humidity and damp items to avoid color transfer and damaging the natural fibers. If your basket gets wet, blot it away immediately—do not rub. To clean, gently shake out crumbs or use a soft cloth or brush to remove them. Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve the dyed colors. Store in a cool, dry place.
