Schwerter Senfmühle Beer Mustard

Schwerter Senfmühle Beer Mustard

In Westphalia, a historic region of northwest Germany, Schwerter Senfmühle has been making mustards the traditional way since 1923. The crisp, slightly hoppy Beer Mustard is wonderfully smooth while retaining a subtle texture. That’s because Schwerter slowly cold-grinds yellow and brown mustard seeds in two old stone mills; this process helps preserve the natural active ingredients and brings forward tangy-sweet notes with a punch of extra heat. Enjoy it the German way with sausages or brotzeit; use it as a binder for fish and meat rubs or simply keep the crock on the counter for sandwiches and more.

Schwerter Senfmühle is one of four historic mustard mills still operating in Germany. They follow a secret recipe that’s been passed down since 1845. Each mustard is traditionally blended with salt, vinegar, beer and water—there are no artificial sweeteners or preservatives. The Beer Mustard is stone-milled to order and packaged in a charming ceramic crock exclusively for Milk Street.

Net Weight/Volume: 250 milliliters
Ingredients: Yellow and Brown Mustard Seeds, Wine Brandy Vinegar, Salt, Beer
Place of Origin: Germany

How to Use: This tangy-sweet and subtly hoppy mustard pairs perfectly with brotzeit—a savory German snack comprised of bread, meats and cheese—and grilled sausages. The consistency makes it a great binder for fish and meat rubs or salad dressings, like our Grilled Mustard-Herb Potato Salad. You can simply keep the crock on the table and easily upgrade sandwiches and charcuterie. Try the Beer mustard in our Mustard-Roasted Cauliflower with Dill, Oven-Baked Three-Layer Croque Monsieur Sandwiches and Sausage Traybake with Apples and Onions.
